Experiences you'll have

Lake Baikal in winter

In March the day temperatures rise above zero, but the ice remains strong and still. Peculiar ice formation, frozen ice cascades and unforgettable ice structures make the perfect winter impression.

Itinerary: Irkutsk — Olkhon island — Buguldeika — Listvyanka — Irkutsk

The conditions are ideal for ice jeeping, snowmobiling and dog sledding. Don't miss your chance to try the "ice rafting" and smoked baikalian omul, the most delicious dish of the region.

Itinerary

The journey begins in Irkutsk, Siberia. You should arrive there from Moscow by plane. Direct flight takes about 6 hours.

Day 1 Olkhon island

Arrive to Irkutsk in the morning. Meeting at the airport with the guide. Transfer by Nissan Safari to Olkhon island (5hrs) across Baikal ice.

On the way we stop for lunch and eat some traditional dishes: sagudai (fish dish), busi (Siberian dumplings), buryat tea. You will stop to see ancient cave drawings, dated back to the Stone Age, and one of the Buddhist Stupas.

You will see the sunset on Olkhon, the biggest island in Baikal Lake. Spend the night in the hotel (half board).

Day 2 Frozen grottos

Winter tours provide many opportunities to see grottos, which are inaccessible during the summer. In winter they are full of ice. On this day we will see the most spectacular places on the island. Lunch will be served just on Baikal ice, and of course the best Baikal fish – smoked omul – will be offered. Here on the ice you will learn how to cook the omul dish.

After lunch you will experience various winter activities: ice skating, ice golf, and a photo session. Spend the night in the hotel (full board).

Day 3 Sagan-Zaba cape

Check-out. You will enjoy the ride to the mountains and encounter several good photo spots. Across the ice you will drive to the cape of Sagan-Zaba to see rock paintings and taste dumplings with deer meat served on the banks of the lake.

Arrive in Bulguldeika. Spend the night in the tourist base (full board).

Day 4 Sandy bay

Check-out. Drive by hovercraft to the Sandy bay, where you can see the cleanest ice.

Spend the night in Listvyanka (half board).

Day 5 Pad Chernaya

Today you will go snowmobiling and dog sledding across Siberian taiga and Baikal ice. You will learn to drive the sled and the instructor will be staying behind you.

On dogs and snowmobiles you will cross the pass and descend to Pad settlement for hot lunch in wooden hunters' huts. Then you will return to Listvyanka to spend a night there (half board).

Day 6 Rest day

In the morning you will head to the view point by cable lift. In the Listvyanka aquarium you will learn more about the Baikal inhabitants.

After lunch you will try the most unusual activity — "ice rafting". It has been held by our company for 7 years and we guarantee you complete safety. The ice thickness in March reaches 1m, and the ice sheet of 60-150m2 will be carefully cut out to be used as a "raft". We attach the boat to the ice to use it as a steering wheel. There we serve hot glue wine and chocko fondue. After 1-1.5 hrs the ice rafting finishes and you may enjoy Siberian saunas with fir branches and ice bath. Spend the night in Listvyanka (full board).

Day 7 Departure

After breakfast, transfer to the airport and departure
(half board)
