Experiences you'll have

Active vacation in Karelia

The tour is suitable for beginners and includes a basic introduction to driving a snowmobile. You will see the most of winter Karelia and the itinerary will give you not only the joy of the ride, but the major highlights of the area as well.

Itinerary: Petrozavodsk station — Kizhi — Monastery — Lodeynoe Pole station

Itinerary

The journey begins in Russian Petrozavodsk, which you must travel to on your own. We are ready to assist with the purchase of tickets. If necessary, leave a comment in the order.

Day 1 Kizhi

Arrive by train to Petrozvodsk (9:00). Meet & greet at the railway station. Transfer to the starting point of the snowmobiling route. Breakfast and safety-briefing. If you are a beginner, it is also possible to learn some snowmobile moves!

You will stop in the village of Yuzhny Dvor to have a look on a wooden church of St.Nicolas. There you will have lunch (sandwiches, sweets and hot tea).

Upon arrival at the hotel you may pay a visit to Russian banya (2 hrs) and enjoy your dinner. (full board)

Day 2 Excursion to Kizhi

Check-out from the hotel. Snowmobile to Kizhi Island, a UNESCO heritage site – an open-air museum of wooden architecture with an ensemble of traditional wooden structures, including churches, mills, barns, and Russian houses (izbas), created by 17th - through 19th -century masters of the Russian north. After the excursion we will depart by snowmobile back to Petrozavodsk.

If you want a short version of the tour, you may depart in the evening from the railway station. Others go to the hotel for dinner and overnight. (full board)

Day 3 Syamozero lake

After breakfast we leave Petrozavodsk to visit a dog breeding centre. If you wish, you may take a ride in the forest with a sled and communicate with a blue-eyed husky.

Then you will start snowmobiling through beautiful forest trails to find your rest in the hotel on the banks of the picturesque lake. In the evening you will have traditional banya. (full board)

Day 4 Kinerma village

Check-out. Today our journey passes through many Karelian villages, many of which are abandoned. However, the unfortunate fate has missed Kinerma village, probably the most remarkable place with such well-preserved Karelian traditions. Karels are closely related to Finnish, and they have similar languages. Many buildings in the village have the status of cultural heritage.

You will have lunch with traditional Karelian pies called "kalitka" baked in the stove in the old local museum. In the evening you will settle down in a snowy village. (full board)

Day 5 Ladoga lake

After breakfast we follow the trail to the biggest lake in Europe, Ladoga. It is so vast that in the summer the wind creates waves, which make it look like a sea rather than a lake.

We will not miss the monastery and its fortress-like architecture. When we reach the lake, we will ride the snow-covered sandy dunes and return to the tourist base.

Dinner will be served early at 17:00 to let you catch the late evening train to Moscow (full board).
